Dr. Adam Booker currently serves as an Associate Professor of Double Bass in the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University. Before joining Appalachian State University, Dr. Booker was Assistant Professor of Double Bass and Jazz Studies at the University of Minnesota Duluth. While in Minnesota, he performed with orchestras like the Minnesota Orchestra and
the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra and maintained an active freelance career as a jazz
bassist.

Dr. Booker holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Double Bass Performance from the University
of Texas, Austin, a MM in Composition and a BM in Jazz Studies from Texas State University, San Marcos. He is also a proud veteran of the US Navy, having served as a bassist for US Navy Band New Orleans. Dr. Booker's research on Early Jazz Double Bass Performance Techniques has been presented at conferences worldwide, including the 2018 European Double Bass Congress in Lucca, Italy. His research on this topic has also been published in Jazz Perspectives. He has studied with notable jazz bassists Eric Revis, and Milt Hinton. Currently, Dr. Booker is studying bass with the legendary Francois Rabbath with frequent trips to Paris.  As a bandleader and composer, he has released three albums, Unraveled Rival (2015), Seven Last Words (2019), and Live in Lucca (2021), on the Shifting Paradigm Records label.
